Project Overview
Delivering a Safer, Longer-Lasting Chamber Cover Solution
Vital GRP was commissioned by M&C Engineering to design, manufacture and install a bespoke Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) chamber cover system for an Anglian Water facility in Southend, Essex.
The existing chamber cover had significantly deteriorated due to prolonged exposure to a demanding wastewater environment, leaving the structure vulnerable to corrosion and requiring replacement.
Working closely with the client, our engineering team developed a fully bespoke GRP chamber cover that delivered a precise fit, rapid installation and long-term durability. The completed solution now provides a safe, corrosion-resistant access platform requiring minimal ongoing maintenance.

Clients Challenges
The client required a walkway system capable of performing reliably throughout large-scale outdoor festivals while reducing ongoing maintenance and replacement costs.
Key project challenges included:
-
Existing walkway materials deteriorated rapidly under heavy foot traffic.
-
Extreme summer temperatures and prolonged UV exposure reduced the lifespan of previous products.
-
Sandstorms and harsh environmental conditions accelerated wear.
-
Annual replacement of walkway panels created significant operational costs.
-
A long-term, high-performance solution was required without compromising visitor safety.
