RiserDeck® GRP Riser Flooring Systems for Service Risers
RiserDeck® is Vital GRP’s registered GRP riser flooring system for service risers, M&E risers, smoke shafts, builders’ work openings and construction voids. Available as post-fix or cast-in systems, RiserDeck® provides a lightweight, anti-slip and corrosion-resistant alternative to steel riser floors, timber covers and temporary void protection.
Lightweight, Anti-Slip GRP Safety Flooring for Service Risers, Trenches & Utility Access Areas
Designed for architects, engineers, consultants and principal contractors, RiserDeck® improves construction-stage safety, supports long-term maintenance access and delivers a lightweight, corrosion-resistant alternative to traditional riser flooring systems.

At Vital GRP, our RiserDeck® GRP Riser Flooring System provides a safe, durable, and corrosion-resistant solution for covering service risers, floor openings, trenches, and utility access points across industrial, commercial, rail, and infrastructure environments.

Open risers and trenches can create serious slip, trip, and fall hazards while also making maintenance access more difficult. Traditional steel covers are often heavy, prone to corrosion, and expensive to maintain over time.

Registered system
RiserDeck® is a registered trademark of Vital GRP, giving contractors and specifiers anidentifiable GRP riser flooring solution.
Easy to handle
GRP panels and profiles are lightweight and easier to move, trim and position than many traditional steel alternatives.
Designed for service risers
Suitable for HVAC risers, M&E risers, smoke risers, builders’ work openings, plant areas, utility risers and maintenance access zones.
No hot works
GRP can be cut and adapted without welding, reducing site complexity and helping avoid hot works permits and exclusions zones.
Improves site safety
Creates a stable working surface to help reduce fall risks and dropped-object hazards during construction and future maintenance.
Corrosion resistant
Ideal for enclosed riser environments where moisture, condensation or building services may affect traditional materials.
GRP Riser Flooring engineered for modern construction projects
Service risers are essential to modern buildings. They carry mechanical, electrical, plumbing, ventilation, data and fire-safety services vertically through the structure. Left open or temporarily protected, these voids can create fall risks, dropped-object hazards and access challenges for follow-on trades.
RiserDeck® replaces temporary covers, timber boarding and corrosion-prone steel solutions with a permanent GRP flooring system engineered for safer access, improved M&E coordination and long-term building maintenance.
The system is suitable for HVAC risers, pipework risers, electrical risers, smoke shafts, builders’ work openings and service voids where safe access and durability are critical.

What is a service Riser and why do they need safety floors?
A Service Riser is a vertical shaft that runs through a building to house essential utilities such as electricity, gas, water, air-conditioning, and communications cabling. These shafts are enclosed to form a protected service route, helping buildings comply with Approved Document B fire safety requirements. The riser walls are specially designed to contain fire, preventing flames and smoke from spreading between floors or into occupied spaces.

An open riser shaft is one of the most serious on-site hazards during construction. Without proper flooring, these voids expose workers to fall risks, and increase the chance of tools or materials being dropped into the shaft, leading to damage, delay, or serious injury. Once the building is complete, maintenance teams need safe access to service the utilities within the riser. Installing a permanent riser floor at each level provides a secure working platform, removing the need for harnesses, scaffolding, or ladders, and ensuring long-term safety for everyone involved.
Why choose GRP Riser Flooring Instead of Steel or a Hybrid?
Traditional steel trench covers and access flooring systems can become heavy, corroded, slippery, and difficult to maintain over time especially in demanding industrial and infrastructure environments.

RiserDeck® is our best-selling GRP service riser flooring system trusted by contractors, specifiers and developers across the UK. Designed for fast installation, long-term performance and complete peace of mind, RiserDeck® delivers a safer, smarter way to close riser voids in both new build and refurbishment projects.
Quick & Easy Installation
Compared to steel covers, RiseDeck panels are significantly easier to lift, remove, and reinstall, helping reduce manual handling risks during inspections and maintenance work.

The lighter weight also helps simplify transportation and installation, making on-site handling faster and more efficient.
Corrosion-resistant materials
Unlike steel, GRP materials will not rust or corrode when exposed to moisture, chemicals, salt, or harsh environments. This makes Riserdeck flooring ideal for use in service risers. Hybrid systems with steel supports and a GRP deck can suffer from bi-metallic galvanic reactions.

The corrosion-resistant properties of GRP help maintain structural integrity and appearance over the long term without the need for galvanising or protective coatings.
Anti-slip safety surface
Safety is critical in operational and maintenance environments.
RiserDeck® GRP flooring features a durable anti-slip surface designed to provide reliable grip in wet, oily, or hazardous conditions.

This helps reduce slip, trip, and fall risks while creating safer access routes for workers and maintenance teams.
Two systems. One reliable solution.
RiserDeck® Post-Fix
Perfect for refurbishment or new builds where floors are already in place. The post-fix system drops neatly into existing openings, locking into position for a secure, permanent fit.

Most of the riser floors we install are Post-Fix, meaning they are fitted after the concrete floors are poured, but before the riser is boxed in and before the building services are installed.

The system is simple and efficient: a GRP framework is designed to bolt into the sides of the riser void, and grating panels are cut to size and dropped into place. Much of this work can be pre-fabricated off-site, with final adjustments made on-site to ensure a perfect fit.

RiserDeck® Cast In
RiserDeck® Cast-In Riser Floors are designed for new builds, installed before the concrete floors are poured. This modular system creates a fully integrated safety platform for service risers, saving time and reducing on-site hazards.

How It Works
-
Modular GRP framework is positioned in the riser void before the concrete pour.
-
Panels are dropped in and secured, forming a complete floor system as the slab is poured around it.
-
Minimal on-site adjustments are needed; the system is pre-fabricated and tailored to your specifications.
